DIY tutorial – Pompom Cardigan

I saw this post on Pinterest a while ago http://www.ispydiy.com/2012/12/my-diy-pom-pom-sweater.html It is for an adult, but I thought it was really suited to children, and in particular my cousin’s daughter Eleanor. Instead of placing pompoms on sleeves which might be annoying for a toddler, I’ve decorated the bottom of the cardigan and created a little pompom collar! I’ve also used a rainbow of colours to add even more fun.

Why not try using pompoms to make a plain item of clothing more exciting? You could create a graphic on the front, or place them between cardigan buttons for a splash of colour…

You will need:

A cardigan or jumper

Pompoms (we bought a huge bag full from Amazon)

Needle

Matching thread

Scissors

Instructions:

Lay out the top, and with lots of pompoms to hand, play around with different designs. Make a note of your final design with a photograph.

Put the pompoms to one side, in the same layout (this makes it quick to find the next pompom you need).

Make a knot in the end of the thread. It needs to be big.

Gently sew the first few stitches, starting from the inside of the top and sewing through the pompom.

Sew a series of tight stitches through the pompom until it is secure. This is especially important if a small child will be wearing the top.

Tie a knot in the thread, again on the inside face of the top.

Repeat for each pompom.

Trim all thread ends down to about 1cm.

Behind the scenes at the Makery Mill

It seems like a long time ago now but in December we had a very crazy few weeks preparing our crafts for the Christmas market in Leamington. We were up to our eyes with buttons, fabric, ribbons, flour, felt and more! We managed to take a few pics along the way which we thought we’d share with you. You can see lots of lovely photos of our market stall and products (and us!) on our Facebook page.

Talking of photos we have just opened a Pinterest account which you can check out here. For those of you who haven’t heard of it, it’s basically a virtual pinboard where you can collect together all the images you love, and share them with friends. We love it, but be warned it’s very addictive! You can very easily lose many, many hours on it! Happy pinning! :) Becky x

Cakes cakes cakes

Hi everyone! I’m Becky and this is my first blog post (I have been slacking!!). I have run Little Miss Cupcakes for nearly four years now, supplying cafes and a hotel in Warwick and Leamington, and providing lots of yummy cakes (not just cupcakes!) for many birthdays, weddings and parties. I’m really excited to start offering cupcake decorating workshops in the next couple of months. At the Makery Mill we’ll be doing classes for any occasion from hen parties to corporate teambuilding to children’s parties, just send us an email – info@makerymill.com – and we’ll see what we can do. Later in the year we’ll also be starting other baking workshops, details to be confirmed! Please get in touch if there is something specific you would like a class on and we’ll definitely see if we can schedule it in.

Here’s a few tasters of what we’ll be offering in our workshops this year…

That’s it from me for now…happy new year and I hope 2013 is full of fun, crafts and sweet treats! xx

Happy New Year!

Hello,

We hope you all had a wonderful festive season and would like to wish you a very Happy New Year! 2013 is going to be very exciting for Makery Mill. We will be finalising our Warwickshire workshop premises in Royal Leamington Spa, which means that the classes can begin and we will be able to host parties for those special occasions (hen weekends, birthdays, baby showers etc!) We can’t wait!

May 2013 be a fantastic year for you and yours :-)

Leamington Market

Hello!

Thank you to everyone who popped along to the Leamington Market on Sunday to say hello! We had the full Makery Mill team there – Myself, Sophie and Becky all had a brilliant day chatting to everyone. The weather was kind to us and it was slightly warmer, hot chocolate, crepes and samosas were obviously still essential though :-)

We had our in house photographer with us so we will upload some professional shots soon but in the mean time here are a few snaps from my phone, sorry about the funny colours!

Thank you to everyone who made purchases and also those of you who entered our competition to win a free craft class for 2 – we will sift through the entries and let you know the winner in the new year! In the meantime please keep checking back for updates and please be sure to check out our facebook page too! We’d really love to see any photos you have of your Makery Mill kits put together so please upload a photo if you’ve made something!!
